Hi I am 12 year old girl and I think that is the average age people start their periods according to books:) I have not got mine yet but I think I might soon. I have been having a little bit of clear goop in my vagina. My vagina hair is also dark and long. What can I do to prevent my period happening:confused:

There is nothing you can do to prevent your period from coming. It's just nature's course. Now you may not get it in the next few months, or the next year. But it will happen, we just have to live with that as the women that we are.

Sweetheart, exercising and eating well are good for you anyway. Why are you so worried about this? It's going to come whether you like it or not. It's just a fact of life.

I don't want it to hurt or to have people make fun of me:(

As J9 has stated, getting your period is a natural part of being a women. You will not prevent it from happening.

Your period can be accompanied by cramps, but that usually goes away with age. Usually taking ibuprofen will help with the cramps, so no worries.

You'll be fine, it happens to all women and we all survive.

Good luck.

Could be. Just be prepared that it can happen any time. Talk to your mom about it, go shopping together for supplies, either pads or tampons (if you get tampons start with the ones made especially for younger girls, they're smaller and are easier to insert when you're young).

Also, it's a good idea to go see your doctor, you are still relatively young to be starting your periods, so a health check is a good idea.

If I were you, I'd start wearing light pads now, just in case it happens while you're at school. That way, there won't be any embarrassment.

Really, you'll be fine, we all survive it. :)
