Ok... For the last seven hours I was trying to figure out how to solve my big problem... I let my cousin, who is seven, to play with my other notebook, Windows Vista... He deleted my entire Desktop... I managed to recover 99% of the files... All except for one... The most important one called "School" which contains all of my schoolwork for the last 2 years...

HOW DO YOU RECOVER A FILE, WHEN ITīS NOT EVEN THERE?

When I searched for it, I found it, but when I clicked on it it simply said "Error"

I am so depressed - my last two years of life had been deleted!

Are there programs for recovering files?

Can you recommend some or am I totally lost?

Answer quick, I have to do this as soon as possible, I actually had some work for school tomorrow in THAT file...

Thanks... :(

Try Recuva. Here's a link to a site that details how to use it and contains a link to the programs's site as well:

A free program to recover (recuva) deleted pictures, photos, and files (http://tips4pc.com/Articles/Software%20Tips/a_free_program_to_recover.htm)

Man, I hope that works...

Or you can forget I existed the last two years...

Best to make a Standard User account for kids and visitors. Log off your account always and make sure it's password protected.

Good luck.

Nope. Im dead... Im dead... this is terrible... I managed to recover only like 30% of the files. That means that 14 months of my life were useless... isn't that depressing?

Would a pro be able to recover my files or is this the end?

It really depends on much you have used the computer since "the accident". The more it has been used the greater the possibility that the area where the file was has been overwritten.

You can try to get a professional in your town to give a quote but it gets pricey.

Oh - any idea about the price?

Im kind of short on cash, but I am willing to pay anything.

I need to do this quick - we use computers a lot at my high school.

A quick search turned up some places in your area that you can call for a quote:
Yahoo! Yellow Pages - Asb Data Recovery (http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?tuid=31428382&ycat=8104646&city=Naples&state=FL&uzip=34102&msa=5345&slt=26.141878&sln=-81.79483&cs=4&stat=:pos:5:regular:regT:20:fbT:0)
