Is it permissible, or just a good/bad idea, to have the trap roughed in at an elevation higher than below the slab? In other words the trap would be encased in concrete. My reason for exploring this is to save some elevation.

Hey Gary, I take it you're speaking of a shower or tub trap. This would put the tub or shower base up om a poatform. As a rule this is done for necessaty not design. Unless it's absolutely necessary to platform a fixture it's always better to keep the trap under the floor line. May I ask why you wish to keep the drainage up so high? Regards, Tom

In addition to the shower/tub drains there is also a utility room floor drain. I'm looking to save some elevation because my drain can possibly pass through the footing in an existing location.
