We own a home Payne gas heater mod. # 100hu the unit is a 100,000 BTU natual gas heater. Per the owners manual we have serviced it by replacing filters, using light oil and changing belts when necessary. Nine months ago we purchased a National Home Protection home warranty. The heater stopped working and N.H.P. will not fix it or apply the $ 1,500.00 maxium payout towards a new heater. N.H.P. claims since we did not have a licensed service person check it every 6 months they have no responsibility. The heater has woked great for 35 years. What is our recourse? We paid $ 400.00 for the home Warranty contract.
Thanks,

Read your original contract. If it states the furnace has to be checked by a licensed service person every 6 months you loose.

Now many areas of the USA do not have licensed service persons or the requirement for a license. This could be a out for you since then the wording of there contract cannot be legally complied with. Check to see if your area requires a license to work on furnaces.
