I wanted to replace a GE Weatertron with a new progammable. It didn't work out. Now I need to put the old unit back on the wall but I need to confirm the locations of the wires onto the unit. Some idiot didn't write down the information. There are eight wires coming out of the wall and I do have a heatpump.

What wires and their colors do you have wired to the GE tstat? And what's the new tstat you're trying to wire up?

hvac1000, I don't see these charts in the sticky FAQ, particularly the tstat mapping chart. Do you think they should be added?

In some cases I felt that adding them might cause some confusion especially if a person does not understand that many times there system is not wired to what we call a standard color code. Many thermostat companys warn about using color to determine wire usage. Most want you to copy down the exact letter on the old thermostat and then mark the corrosponding wire. Sometimes a white wire will not be on W but be on some other letter of the thermostat because the original thermostat was not wired to the standard color code.

I post this chart whenever there seems to be no options left for the poster to find the solution in the thermostat manufactures install instructions. I like the posters to try and follow the manufactures instructions provided first. I would like to add that I have no problem is they are added to the sticky list but as you will find out not many posters bother to go there (stickys) to look up answers for themselves. LOL.
