Yes, hvac1000, one must observe to acquire wisdom and I observed a unit working as a heater/cooler. It has a heating coil with a fa in front of it, and the whole assembly was surrounded by a box of 6 panels of cooling grass with a water pipe keeping the panels wet. A round opening for the fan to throw out air - hot/ cold.
Thanks for the long quotation below your 'one-word' answer!

Never saw one in the USA. Been in the biz for over 40 years. It is a home brew asssembly since no regular equipment manufacturer makes it here. LOL Cooling grass LOL Just got to love the engineering features. Have a good day. BTW In backwards India you might have such devices but I thought they were cow coolers for your gods.

I thought people in forward (!) USA know everything on this planet! How come you don't about cooling grass, surprise! These units are currently being manufactured in Maharshtra. Yes, it is a local - a pure, Maharshtriyan product!
So being in a certain business in USA doesn't mean that one knows every latest happening all over the world. It doesn't make you so called 'Forward'.

You mean something like this?:

Amcor PLM16000EH 16000 BTU The Most Powerful Portable Air Conditioner with Heater (http://www.brilliantcooler.com/portable-air-conditioners-amcor-plm16000eh.htm)

There is something called an evaporative cooler which I have seen 40 years ago. They still do exist. The above one is a standard AC/heater unit that uses evaporation to ENHANCE its effect. Finding one that is both evaporative and can heat would be a challenge. Evaporative coolers only work where the humidity is low.

Actually I do not care to know anything about India except I wish all the imports here would go back home. Good luck building your project and do not forget to add a cow’s tail to keep the fly’s away. That way your unit will be unique and you can patent it.

Thank for being angry.
And, if you do not observe (India), you won't acquire wisdom!

I observed India in 1967 while on extended leave with a friend from the British Royal Marines. He was on loan to our detachment serving in another theater of the war. His parents lived in India as a cultural liaison from the UK.

My visit was nothing special with the exception of visiting a few well known sites. The food was way too spicy and we had to tablet treat any water we drank due to bacterial/fecal contamination. His father was smart and had laid in a good supply of expensive but duty free Scotch Whiskey and various English food specialties so all was not lost. The only real bright spot was the hired help in there compound where many of the women were quite good looking and eager to please there guests. Since I was never waited on before I was quite impressed. Having your bath drawn, clothes laid out, shoes shined, and many other things were an introduction into a different world and time.

Your experiences might be true. But hasn't Europe or USA changed since 1967? Do you think the TIME would have spared India from changing? Again change can be better or worse, anywhere - in Europe, in USA or in India.
The concepts of good and bad, civilized and primitive are always relative. Whatever is primitive from one point of view, the same thing can be civilized from other. Coolers for gods in a so called backward society are no worse than sprinkling holy water to purify a human. In every culture, in every society there are some good things, some bad things. No one should label a whole society as bad or backwards for a few bad things. When we point one finger towards another person, the remaining 4 fingers point towards ourselves. No person, no society is free from bad or backward things. And ingenuity, intelligence are never the sole property of any society. These eternal things are seen anywhere, even in nomadic tribes in Asia or Africa or Mexico.
I am an IT graduate, teaching IT for last 14 years to urban students. I have been working with underdeveloped part of Marathwada region. Currently I am working with Primitive tribes in central India. If I arrange measuring units accordingly, I find good programmers, creative architects and engineers in the primitive tribes too. In some regards I find the urban societies more primitive than the tribals, the tribal in some respect are more advanced.
If I assume myself to be a developed one then my heart should be open to all thoughts, all living beings, all non-living beings. I am sure you too would agree with this. Come, let us think more openly about new techniques helping this whole human race, this earth, this universe.
