My landlord came into my apartment this morning without notifying me. There was no emergency of any kind. My boyfriend was there while I had left for work, and he woke up to find my landlord in my apartment with 2 other men, electricians my boyfriend was told. What can I do, where do I start I wonder how many other times he came into my place without me knowing. Can I change my locks now? I have no lease, and my apartment is a basement I am not even sure if it is legal. I am on time with my rent every month and I never had a problem with him. .

No you cannot change your locks. Your landlord has a right to the keys to your apartment.
Since you have no lease, you need to check the laws for your state as to landlord access. However, if they were electricians, its very possible thet electrical work needed to be done on the building and they need access to your apartment.
Since this is a basement apt and, I suspect, in the landlord's home, he may not be aware of the law. So before you go off in a frenzy, I would a) check the law, b) have a CALM discussion with the landlord explaining that you understand he may need access from time to time, but that he needs to give you some advance notice, c) get a chain on your door so at least he can't walk in on you unannounced and d) do a thorough, photographic inventory of your possiessions.

I agree with Scott.
There's a "sticky" at the top of this forum with a link to each state's landlord / tenant laws. I'd read up on that.
It wouldn't hurt to suggest to the landlord that you guys get a lease in place. Even if it's just a month-to-month lease. That way you can put down on paper issues like this so you have something clear-cut to fall back on.

Yes, Scott is right on, landlords will normally give you a notice but at times to meet with a service persion, of there may have been something that had to be done you were ot aware of I other parts of the building.
