A while back I get a letter from VA DCSE saying I owed more than half a year's salary in child support arrears. When I investigating more, I found out it was for the same 3 yr time I had already paid for. I enquired within to get payment history, request an administrative review, and request all copies of every single child support application filled out against me.

Guess what I get after 2 weeks... a "Payment Record Letter" that says this:

ARREARS FOR THE PERIOD 4/2003 - 3/2006 WERE NEVER ENTERED ON THE SYSTEM WHEN THE ORDER WAS FIRST ENTERED. THERE IS NO CURRENT SUPPORT IN THE DIVORCE DECREE. IF YOU ARE DISPUTING THOSE ARREARS YOU NEED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF PAYMENT FOR THAT PERIOD.

I got proof!! I got pay stubs, tax-off set letters and even a letter from my payroll dept. saying that I no longer needed to pay!

My concern is this... I paid the minimum due because that's how she and I left it, but what I'm thinking is that they (VA DCSE) went back and readjusted based on the last job I had when the order was granted. I lost my job in 11/2002, but in court she reported that I still worked that job in 3/2003. Since then I've paid the minimum $65/month for the 3 yrs in question.

So I don't understand this letter? Are they trying to collect more on top of what I already paid? Or am I way off base?

Thanks for any feedback.

Ask them what they are looking for. It wouldn't be the first time some noob clerk entered in the wrong figures or tried to change something without permission. Make sure you make note of every call and every name you talk to. If you don't get straight answers the first time out ask for a supervisor.

Don't let them bully you around.
