While living with roommates, I was responsible for paying the power bill, even though the account was in another roommates name. I didn't pay the bill for a good portion of the year and it has finally shown up on my roommates credit. Is it possible to have the debt transferred to me, since it was my fault? I'm willing to do anything to fix my terrible mistake.

I can't imagine a utility company obliging you on this but you certainly could take out a small loan or credit card and pay the bill with it. That would transfer it nicely. But the only way to definiteively find out is call the company and ask..

ALso a notorized letter to the roommate stating that it was your obligation to pay the debt, and you failed to meet this obligation.

The roommate can use the letter to explain the circumstances if this one incidence causes him to not get a loan.
