View Full Version : Worse than a squeaky dryer

I've got a Kenmore dryer that has been squeaking for about 4-5 days, and yesterday it just quit. The motor sounds OK because when I push the start button, it makes a start-up sound, but it does not turn. When it was working in the past 4-5 days, it was much more apt to over-heat and stop. So now, I hit the start button, it sounds like it is trying to get going, but it will not turn, then it stops.

My wife told me that my daughter had some fish rocks on top of it that fell down into dryer by way of the lint screen. She thinks a few of the rocks got caught and are keeping it from turning.

I've been reading about people having problems with squeaking dryers and they had to replace a bearing using a kit. Is this what I've got going on? How and where do I purchase a bearing kit?

Squeaking generally is the bearing. Parts are generally available at Parts & Accessories | Shop & Find Lawn & Garden, Appliance Parts at Sears PartsDirect | SearsPartsDirect.com from Sears (http://www.searspartsdirect.com). You will also find an exploded diagram for your dryer too. At this poin there was probably too much friction on the drum and the belt came off.

If we just use the rock scenero then there is an exhaust fan that is controlled by another motor. Rocks therefore may have caused this fan to stop and would cause the dryer to overheat.

There may be a thermal fuse that needs replacing too.
