The water temp at the master bath shower is noticeably cooler that other faucets/showers in the house... it's warm, however just not as hot as the others. Pressure seems fine. Temp set at 130 or so... it is the longest run in the house from the WH but the garden tub adjacent to it has good hot water temp.

New electric water heater just installed... 80gal. Whirlpool... the same prob. Existed prior to the replacement and was not the reason for the replacement.

I have taken off the handle (Moen-style single handle) and adjusted the mixing screws on the hot water side all out... adj. cold water side in w/ no noticeable change in temp.

I'm confused, frustrated and cold... any help or advice is appreciated

Does your Moen have built in stops, if so close the cold and tell us how the hopt volume is. You may have a partially clogged mixing valve.

What is the model number of your valve, Thanks.

Bob/John, Thanks so much for your reply... sorry for delay in my response. I've attached photos of valve in wall... when I close off cold side screw on mixing valve, the water volume decreases some but over all temp does not increse as it should I would think... no sure on the built in stops, adj. screws will only turn to a full open or close. I know the cold screw is closed because when I turn it all the way closed and turn knob to cold side only, water flow basically stops... thanks again.

If I decide to change the valve cartridge, should I turn off main water supply to the house or will the closing the adj screws on the mixing valve suffice. I think it's a bad valve myself, but that's why I'm here... to ask the experts. Also, can you advise me as to what model valve I have so I know what to ask for at Lowe's... Thanks again.

Those aren't adjusting screws, that's your integral stop for closing the valve so you can work on it. Close them thight, open the valve to see if they really are closed and pull the cartridge. You can get a free one from Moen by calling their customer service folks. Life time warranty. It sounds like the cartridge, and also it looks like you have Moen model # L82691 faucet it takes cartridge P/N 1222 if you call Moen at 800-465-6130 tell them what you need they will send it for free, also attach are the links that will help how to identify the parts and how to change the cartridge, good luck.

As you can see from John's helpful diagram no special tools needed. Most of the time. Remove the escutcheon plate and handle, handle adapter and temp gear then you pull the clip and the cartridge comes staright out. Old cartridges sometime are stubborn and you need to twist them or use a Moen puller. Some home center will rent or sell a puller if you get into that bind. I do not own one and have not been stumped yet but there's always a first time. Follow John's tutorial.

Got the cartridge and changed it out... still the same... I can turn the cold feed screw all in to shut cold supply side down and water temp remains luke warm w/ handle turned all the way to hot... turn it to cold and the water stops flowing... I'm stumped??

One other note:The link to the diagram for the faucet is not exactly like mine... the cartridge appears to be diff... I took my old one to Lowe's and it matched identical up to a Moen model #1200 replacement... I'm figuring that mine is an older model... house is about 15 yrs. Old and has probably never been replaced... however, other than being a little hard to push/pull, it doesn't appear to be clogged in any of the ports... no calcium buildup of any kind... see pix.

BTW... mine was stuck in there pretty good and I couldn't pull it out to save my life so I made a simple puller out of necessity... used a small piece of 3/4 copper pipe about 1.5" long and a couple of large washers... used the original screw from the handle/cartridge. Placed the copper pipe directly over the valve w/ the washers on the other end and tightened the screw down until the cartridge slowly pulled out inside the 3/4 copper pipe... voila. Worked like a charm and saved a lot of gas running around looking for the correct tool. Thought I might pass that along...

That faucet has temperature control ring on the stem, behind handle. Remove handle and toss the temp. adjustment ring. You will get hot water.

Unfortunately mine is an older model and does not have a temp control ring...

It looks that you have installed a wrong cartidge, I did some more research and found that your faucet is the old standard model Number is 2739 and the cartridge P/N is 1225 see the link bellow, if you have problem finding the Cartridge call Moen at 800-289-6636 give your model number for the faucet and P/N for the carttrige, they will send the correct part for free, Good Luck.

I think I've figured it out... would like your thoughts and comments. I measured the water temp in several different sinks/showers etc. with a Multi-Meter that has a temp reading. Here's is what I found. The model shower head I have in the master bath is one of those fancy lo-flo aeration models that give a soft broad pattern of spray. With that head, I was approx. 10 degrees cooler in the Master Bath (109-110) than I was in the kid's bath (119-120) which is the closet shower to the WH. By simply changing the shower head to a "Stream" type 2.5gpm lo-flo, the temp increased about 5-6 degrees. My water heater is set to around 130-135 or so... is that much of a temp drop from WH to faucet normal? I live in central Florida and temp today is in the high 60's... house is CB. All the readings were taken w/ mix to full hot and/or only hot side of faucet on. On average, the house sinks/faucets etc. were all right around 120. Also, a couple of the sinks w/ aeration heads that were corroded w/ scale etc. were reading less (5-6 degrees) than those w/o aeration heads and/or one's that weren't scaled up. The shower head has probably been on a couple of years and is also a little dirty, so I think that is also contributing to the problem. And originally I had the water temp set on the new WH to 120, so I was getting water at the MB probably only less than 100... I can certainly live w/ 110-115, so I'll probably turn down a little and play with it some to find a happy median... and change out the head. Thanks for all your help guys... let me know your thoughts on this.
