View Full Version : How do you remove Knock Out from washer box?

Hi, this is my first post. I had a washer and dryer installed, but was told I needed to remove the "Knock Out" for the drain myself in order to insert the hose. The techs said it would be simple, just use a flathead screwdriver to pry it off.

Well, I tried this, but could not remove the plug. It appears to be a white plastic cap. My concern is that I do not want to damage anything by using too much force, and I noticed what looks like drywall dust all around the "knock out" plug. So my fear is getting that dust stuck in the drain.

Any suggestions? Should I call in a professional?

The last thing you want is for the plastic cover to fall down in the stand pipe as you're removing it. I take a hammer and screwdriver and force it under the edge of the plastic cover and pry up to where I cvan get a pair of pliers on it so it doesn't fall down the pipe. You may then pry it out and toss it. Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. Tom
