Make certain any forms you download are obtained from the official IRS.gov web site. There is no need to obtain US IRS forms from other sources. For recent years you should be able to fill in the forms with the same PDF reader that makes it possible to view the forms on your computer screen. The site also has instructions for obtaining forms by mail.

The IRS doesn't normally contact taxpayers through Email, so be skeptical if you receive an email purporting to be from the IRS, particularly if it requests personal information like taxpayer ID numbers (including SSN).

From IRS Form 4506:
Request for Copy of Tax Return
"Tip: You may be able to get your tax return or return information from other sources. If you had your tax return completed by a paid preparer, they should be able to provide you a copy of the return. The IRS can provide a Tax Return Transcript for many returns free of charge. The transcript provides most of the line entries from the tax return and usually contains the information that a third party (such as a mortgage company) requires. See Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return, or you can call 1-800-829-1040 to order a transcript."

"Fee. There is a $57 fee for each return requested. Full payment must be included with your request or it will be rejected."

Ask IRS for the transcripts--this is free.

If your return was done by a tax professional, he/she has a copy on file which they will gladly provide you for free or for a small handling fee.

Otherwise, the transcipts noted by Mukata can be mailed in about a week or fax to you if you need it quickly.
