I saw this movie when I was a little girl in the 80's and don't remember much about it. All I can recall is that it was about hispanics but it was in English. The daughter in the film is hanging out with a boy (I think his name was Ramon) and helping him learn how to read and write but no one knows it (or no knows he can't read or write). The father doesn't like it because I think the boy may have been somekind of street-kid or thug.
The only scene I can remember clearly, is her coming home after being with the boy and her father asking what she was doing with the boy, she shoves a notebook at him and says something along the lines of, "This is what we've been doing." I think the whole movie revolved around the girl's sweet sixteen or Quinceanera (Sweet fifteen) party.
Please help, this has been driving crazy for years!
