This is confusing. I have terrazzo floors. My shower base is simply the floor sloped down to a drain in a custom tile shower enclosure. Are you asking what drain to install? How to form up a custom tile shower base? How to pan oiut for a shower or as Milo suggests is this a manufactured base? What are your pipes made of? Plastic or cast iron? Regards, Tom

I understand you are installing manufactured terazzo shower pan. Good choice. People don't realize what they are mising by going to plastic...

Anyway, last time I installed leaded drain in was back in the early 80's in NYC. We don't use this process any longer, especially here in California where "lead" is definitely a "four letter word". But I understand some old plumbers still stick to old installation practices. There are all kinds of brass, ABS, PVC drains that you could use. They are also lot easier to install. I would call the manufacturer / supplier and ask them first. They should have the best knowledge of the installation process.

This is a preformed terrazzo base with a drain, it says it comes with a caulked lead connection. My friend just installed one a few months ago, and he had a plumber come out and lead it in. I saw on a website the mentioned using a two inch thick gasket that you lubricate and press into position. Just wasn't sure if that was an option, and if so what kind of pipe does it go to.

Now let's see what a Oatey # 4206 drain,(see image) really is.
Qatey #43206 is a cast iron flange type shower drain that's designed for custom tile showers with a shower pan. In addition it's a No- Hub fitting. So Casey if you went and bought one take it back. Regards, Tom

I agree with Tom: This drain is for hot-mop shower pan installation.
