This is seriously an elementary question but I'm drawing a blank because I haven't done math in forever. Lets say you have a random equation like
23.2 divided by 14.56 + 78.6325

When you do the equation do you subtract/add first or is divide/multiply?

thanks!

Multiply and divide, and then add and subtract. As far as which of the pairs you do first, i.e. multiplying before dividing it doesn't make any difference.

1. multiply and divide
2. add and subtract

In this case, (2.32 divided by 14.56) then + 78.6325, answer is 78.79184... in case you wanted to check.

N.B. if you put it into a calculator, assuming it doesn't have brackets, the calculator should do all the operations in the right order.

Hope it helps and wasn't too condescending.

I suggest using the BODMAS order, that is

B rakets
O f
D ivision
M ultiplication
A ddition
S ubstraction

Starting from the brackets, down to the subtraction.
