Hello,

I have an old Lawn core aerator made by Aquafier in PA.

I am currently having a problem with the recoil starter where it extends fully when pulled and retracts fully when you release tension on the rope. However, the action of pulling the rope does not engage or turn the engine in the least. In other words, I keep pulling the rope and it keeps retracting but the engine is not activated or turns over. Its as if the flywheel has become completely disconnected from the starter or the recoil starter from the engine.

Can anyone give me some idea of what might be amis and how I might go about fixing it myself?

Thanks very much and looking forward to your help.

Briggs and Straton Engine?

Replace or rebuild the clutch (just under the flywheel housing).
Replace about $15. Rebuild $0 in parts.

You have to take it apart and remove ALL the dirt and don't lose the balls.
