I have a 2003 Chevy Malibu, the blower for heating and air conditioning only blows on setting 4 and 5. I called my Chevy dealer and was told that the blower motor resistor needed to be replaced. How much should this cost and could I replace it myself?
Thank you.

About $30 from Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto (http://www.Rockauto.com). About $50 for the part at the dealer. You absolutely need a 5.5 mm or, I think 5/32 swivel socket to do the job.
The resistor is located under the passenger dash within 2" of the firewall. It has a cable and 3 screws. Detach the cable. Loosen, but do not remove the screws near the firewall. One screw needs the swivel socket. Remove the other one, tilt and slide forward and pull down.

Hello,
I just noticed yesterday that my car has separate fuses for the blower. One fuse for speeds 1-3, and another separate fuse for Speed 4. If yours is the same way, maybe the first fuse is blown? Something easy to double-check anyway, before going for that resistor. :)
