Okay, this may not be a combo exactly but I salt my cantelope melon. . Oh, now here is one, and my hubby likes peanut butter and iceberg lettuce sandwiches! :p

Fried Mars bars??

Hy hubbly likes hellmans Mayo on pizza

Jun 7, 2006, 04:04 PM
Salt on melon is not too bad, but peanut butter and lettuce? Yuckkkk... haha.

My adopted dad likes lime jello with lots of green olives (the pimento kind) in it. I don't know, maybe that's common but I think it's disgusting! :p

My gross food of choice is horseradish and applesauce on crackers. Reminds me of Passover LOL!

J_9
Jun 7, 2006, 04:06 PM
Horseradish on applesauce. Now I have heard it all, not to mention green jello with olives!!

My 4 year old dips his cheetos in ketchup

orange
Jun 7, 2006, 04:12 PM
Mmmm... ketchup. My best friend eats Kraft Dinner (I think in the States you guys call it Kraft Macaroni and Cheese) with ketchup. That wouldn't be weird except that she throws out the cheese part... so it's just plain noodles with ketchup... blech!

When I used to work at McDonald's, I ate mayo and ketchup mixed together on my fries. Then later I discovered that mayo with sweet and sour sauce was even better haha.

Grossest ketchup story I know though is another friend who likes ketchup as a dip with raw veggies!! Like broccoli, carrots, celery, etc. Yuck!

What have I unleashed!?

I have been know on occasion put plain yellow mustard on pizza but ONLY the simple cheese and pepperoni kind... makes it taste a little like those giant hot pretzels the carnivals sell??

J_9
Jun 7, 2006, 04:18 PM
I think you have unleashed a monster, but you got to admit it is fun!!

I like fun posts too, at least no one is arguing. LOL

Jun 7, 2006, 04:25 PM
valinors_sorrow agrees: Hmmm I may have to try the Passover cracker recipe, I like the sound of it!

Yeah I like it haha. At Passover, there's this point in the seder where you each a small sandwich of bitter herbs (red horseradish) and a pasty mixture of nuts and apples, on matzoh. It tastes pretty good IMO haha. Crackers, applesauce and horseradish has a similar taste.

Makes us all smile and we could actually use more of this kind of post.

My ex mother-in-law ate ham sandwhiches with oreo cookies on them.

I ate colby cheese and dill pickles while pregnant.

Have any of you ever had Prairie Oysters aka Montana Tendergroins? They're kind of a speciality around here, LOL. Here's a recipe:

Daughter eats peanut butter on oreos, her best friend like ranch dip on hotdogs and pizza.

Mmmm... peanut butter oreos sound good. I imagine they'd taste something like a Reese peanut butter cup. Unfortunately I am on a sugar free diet now! :(

I just love Hummus, peanutbutter and green olive sandwiches. Makes my taste buds all stand up and applaude me!

Does anyone make their own Hummus? Where is that nice lady from the middle east, millic I think? Tell me how to make the most supberb Hummus, if I don't already. I use Chick peas, Tahini and garlic then food processor till creamy. Sound about right?

Oreo cookies ought to be outlawed along with Tootsie Rolls on the charge of trying to impersonate chocolate!

Salt on melon is good.

Olives in almost anything is wrong.

For years I did potato chips in whatever sandwich I was eating... as in a layer of chips over the cheese.

Peanut butter and lettuce sandwich I can see... kind of a play off peanut butter on celery sticks. Anyone ever done the elvis special? Grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich?

GAG!! GAG!! GAG!!

I agree its not chocolate, but if you pass this law you will have BIG MISTER BUNNY BEAR (aka my son) to answer to!!

We were just at a restaurant like 20 min ago to take out food and he kept slipping behind a counter. I thought it was to find crayons. Nope. He knows inherently where they stashed the tootsie rolls. Absolutely no idea how he knew that. He also knows what toys stores look like from the back so I suppose there's just some funky kid mojo going on.

magprob
Jun 7, 2006, 05:11 PM
I have that funky kid mojo going on still. I can find a tootsie roll or an oreo hidden within 5 city blocks! Now that is an important skill to have!

The thing with the peanuts in the coke is an Okie thing I learned from my dad. He is a real Okie and he still puts peanuts in his Coke... and yes, it must be Coke. People from Arkansas use Pepsi and you know what people from Arkansas are like!

I'd have to say that whipped cream on a taco truly is my all time favorite.

Speaking of hot sauce, anyone ever tried Colon Blow?

Hubby put a little bit on a roast beef sandwich, when I say a little bit I mean a teeny tiny little bit, and it numbed his mouth. And he is a professional hot sauce freak and he has never had anything near as hot as this.

You can get it at www.delidirect.com if you are man/woman enough.

He has tried 'em all and this is by far the HOTTEST

That's basically how I make my hummus, although I add a bit of olive oil, and sometimes lemon juice, too.

How about Herring and Apple Salad in Sour Cream? Kind of an Ashkenazi Jewish special haha. Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

1 16 oz jar of pickled herring, drained throroughly
1 medium onion, finely chopped
4 crisp tart apples (I like using Granny Smith), cored and peeled
1 1/4 cups sour cream
1 tsp wine vinegar
1/2 tsp powdered sugar
1/2 tsp dijon mustard
Shredded lettuce and paprika for garnish

Slice the herring and apples into bite size pieces, and put the herring, apples and onion into a large bowl. Stir the vinegar and seasonings into the sour cream, and then add it to the apple and herring mixture, stirring thoroughly. Refridgerate for several hours or overnight. Spoon the salad onto a bed of lettuce and garnish with paprika. Serve with buttered rye bread.

Sorry, sent to Josh by PM, here is for y'all
1 large jar of sauerkraut (drained but reserve the juice)

Fresh mushrooms sliced

1 large white onion sliced and cut in half (oh, yeah you don't do onions)

2 sticks of butter

1st slice up the onion and sauté it in 1 stick of butter
2nd add the sauerkraut and sauté both until crisp

Put juice in a pan, add the onions and sauerkraut, and add about a cup of water.

Clean and slice the mushrooms and add to the soup and add the second stick of butter.

Steep for a few hours

Better served the next day.

More Whipped Cream!!

I have a new delightful friend,
I am most in awe of her.
When we first met I was impressed,
By her bizarre behavior.

That day I had a date with friends,
We met to have some lunch.
Mae had come along with them,
All in all... a pleasant bunch.

When the menus were presented,
We ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups.
Except for Mae who circumvented,
And said, Ice Cream, please: two scoops.

I was not sure my ears heard right,
And the others were aghast.
Along with heated apple pie,
Mae added, completely unabashed.

We tried to act quite nonchalant,
As if people did this all the time.
But when our orders were brought out,
I did not enjoy mine.

I could not take my eyes off Mae,
As her pie a-la-mode went down.
The other ladies showed dismay,
They ate their lunches silently, and frowned.

Well, the next time I went out to eat,
I called and invited Mae.
My lunch contained white tuna meat,
She ordered an ice cream sundae.

I smiled when her dish I viewed,
And she asked if she amused me.
I answered, Yes, you do,
But also you confuse me.

How come you order rich desserts,
When I feel I must be sensible?
She laughed and said, with wanton mirth,
I am tasting all that's possible.

I try to eat the food I need,
And do the things I should.
But life's so short, my friend, indeed,
I hate missing out on something good.

This year I realized how old I was,
She grinned, I've not been this old before.
So, before I die, I've got to try,
Those things for years I had ignored.

I've not smelled all the flowers yet,
There's too many books I have not read.
There's more fudge sundaes to wolf down,
And kites to be flown overhead.

There are many malls I have not shopped,
I've not laughed at all the jokes.
I've missed a lot of Broadway Hits,
And potato chips and cokes.

I want to wade again in water,
And feel ocean spray upon my face.
Sit in a country church once more,
And thank God for It's grace.

I want peanut butter every day,
Spread on my morning toast.
I want un-timed long-distance calls,
To the folks I love the most.

I've not cried at all the movies yet,
Nor walked in the morning rain.
I need to feel wind in my hair,
I want to fall in love again.

So, if I choose to have dessert,
Instead of having dinner.
Then should I die before night fall,
I'd say I died a winner.

Because I missed out on nothing,
I filled my heart's desire.
I had that final ice cream sundae,
Before my life expired.

With that, I called the waitress over,
I've changed my mind, it seems.
I said, I want what she is having,
Only add some more whipped-cream!

I'm actually not sure, but I know I haven't many threads get much longer than this one haha. Maybe this thread can break a record or something. :p

the longest thread I can think of seeing here is the adult sex shaving thread... something like 240 posts and 100000 views.

I'm guessing we can break the posts, but the views... I'm guessing not so much. Unless we move the strange food thread to adult sexuality? =)

or not.

we keep this up and they might open a topic called "off topic" for completely random streams of silliness.

Re the soup recipe - what weight/measure is a stick of butter??

One we loved as kids - lettuce with malt vinegar and sugar sandwiches.

In Brazil I love 'Romeo and Juliet' -= cheese and like a solid quince jam (jello) on a cocktail stick - similar to our cheese and pineapple.

A famous brazilian/portuguese one is 'feijoada', a kind of thick black bean stew with garlic sausage and suckling pig - ears snout tail trotters the lot.

Does anyone have an aversion with their food touching other food on their plate?

How about eating one food before going on to the next?

yeah... its not completely neurotic, but I hate cold french fries, so I'll always eat all or most of them before the sandwich, even though I like the sandwich hot too. Basically I want my food brought to me in thirds at my demand. Oh well.

on a completely diff note - my grandfather was a carpenter so he always took a lunch box w food to the site. For years he always had angel food cake as a dessert. One day my grandmother swore in a rage that shed never make it again for him. Seems she found out that after all her work to make an airy angel food cake that he'd always smoosh it into a dense ball an eat the whole thing all at once... he just like it compacted like that. She was absolutely in a rage and he didn't understand why. =)

val - picking apart mixed veggies... now if you're doing this because you dislike some, OK. But if you do that to order them before eating, that's a little beyond me. =) you don't count them too to make sure there are even numbers?

I dont think I was ever into wierd foods.. at leas not that I considered wierd. I used to eat Honey & Butter Sandwhiches! mmmMMMmmm... those are good! yeah, you can buy honey butter blend in the stores now. Yummy.

my wife likes some protein in the morning... despite all the carbs fill you up talk, if she has a little protein it keeps her full longer. Anyway, she isn't a huge fan of peanut butter, but can eat it on toast if in a rush.

she came up with a mix of honey and peanut butter on toast that's really quite good. You just butter the toast a little, then add and spread some honey, then the peanut butter. Pretty yummy stuff.

Man.

I need to drink more wine tonight before I read anymore.

Here's one that was inspired by indulgence in cohol.

My italian father in law came home one night with friends after drinking some italian liquer that tastes like licorice. Basically, anytime they open a bottle of this stuff you'd better have bail money cause the bottle get polished off and the boys get rowdy.

Anyway, he, being a bachelor, looked in his barren fridge and saw italian salami, cream cheese, and tabasco. He put them together and they are now a staple at all family holiday gatherings. You warm the cream cheese or beat it in a mixer, then add tabasco until it has enough kick... it always takes more than you think. Then spread the mix on one side of the salami and roll it into a tube and cut in half. Refrigerate if not eating immediately.

This requires good italian salami... one that doesn't taste like pork. And its better if you can get it cut thinly.. you want a little bite, but not too thick.

This appetizer is absolutely demanded at major family gatherings and it is pretty awesome for being only three ingredients, a half hour prep, and inspired by a late night buzz.

Must have been Sambuca or Anisette. I loved it when my Italian hockey-player boyfriend's mother served it. It was clear until mixed with water and then became cloudy. Yum!

I know a similar hor d'oeuvre my mom made of worcestershire sauce flavoured cream cheese rolled into thinly sliced chipped beef and secured with a fancy toothpick. Very popular. I shall have to try the hot sauce and salami trick or face relinquishing my title, I should think? :p

kp2171
Jun 10, 2006, 07:56 AM
ill have to ask my wife if its sambuca... the name rings familiar, but the color seems off... I thought the boys drank a darker version but id only had it once and I might be mistaken. Galliano is another anise flavored drink but I don't think that was it.

like I said with the salimi roll ups, you're looking for a more garlicky and spiced flavored salami if possible, instead of a one that tastes more like pork. We gets ours in a local italian deli and its simply called moist salami. I don't know what ill do to please my girls if we ever move and I can't find a substitute. Well... yeah, I know what ill do... like when her father moved, ill have to have it less often and have people bring it with them when they visit. =)

We would bet other kids that he would eat a dog food sandwich and it would freak them out. Then they started blabbing to our teachers about this guy that ate dog food and one day the cops removed him. I never tried Alpo because I could not get past the smell. One of my buddies did however, and he said it was quite good. I asked him if he would continue to eat it like the guy in the junk yard did and he just smiles and said, " Mixed with mayo and pickles, it"ll do in a pinch." Then they started blabbing to our teachers about this guy that ate dog food and one day the cops removed him. I never tried Alpo because I could not get past the smell. One of my buddies did however, and he said it was quite good. I asked him if he would continue to eat it like the guy in the junk yard did and he just smiles and said, " Mixed with mayo and pickles, it"ll do in a pinch." When I go back to California to visit, I never eat at his house.
They actually have a dog food comercial that shows mixed vegetables and meat that looks darn delicious.

I share a small office with a volunteer and in the bottom of their desk is the bag to fill the candy dishes and a pack of dog treats (we get both kinds of visitors). And one day the volunteer looked at me funny as he was chewing and said, "Ummm these beef sticks taste kinda stale?"

I froze! LOL

Then I told him, I had to but we all died of laughter and it is often referenced to this day, poor guy!

My wife once was fuming mad at a guy she worked with. They were very good friends who hung out with several others also from work, drank and played poker in their younger days and pretty much there were no holds barred. She would occasionally take him one of her desserts, usually the raspberry cheesecake if he had any input. So in her anger she took him a very nicely wrapped tin of dog treats and left it on his desk. Apparently before he bit into one he recognized an odd smell and got the hint that hed better make amends or the angered italian girl might be taking more drastic measures.

*** added note: he's now the president of the company and her direct boss... but shell still do the same thing if the moment required it I'm sure.

I know a guy a good mate of mine who uses kethcup on everything.. I mean every food he has in front of him he has to have ketchup with it.
Certain foods blend in well with it, such chips, steak / chicken. But, but NOT :-
Tortellini pasta, with a nice fresh cream sauce with herbs.. or Mash potatoes or on pizza... or with roast dinner!
LOL what he like

Ham and Honeydew type melon is a well know Mediterranean recipe although I don't think it would work so well with watermelon

I really like what I call a pizzarito
I make a pizza on a burrito shell and roll it up and shove her down.
It is a cheap way for pizza and it works well with those picky eaters they can put what ever they want on it.

Has anyone tried scrambled eggs with pineapple chuncks and Hot Sauce? Mmmmmm Good!

Hi everybody...

Wow, I'm glad you mentioned the site going down, I thought it was my computer and did a spyware check, virus check, defragged my hard drive, and panicked!

Thanks Val, honored and accept the invite...

Can someone please send me an email address so that I can find out from you guys when the site is down again, please..
My email is [email protected] and if you use AHMD in the title, I won't delete it as spam.

I was having a serious AHMD 'Jones' here.

Thank goodness I still had some hotsauce to put on my fried rice.

Daughter picked this up at the tex-mex border.

Corn on the cob. Rolled in mayo. Sprinked with paprika, salt, pepper. Rolled again in cheese (she likes parmasean at home).

Actually its an interesting combo.

Yes, very interesting. Our 4 year old likes to put corn, mashed potatoes and gravy on biscuits.

I giggle and say it is his version of cornbread.

Where not out of food combinations yet.

Mac and cheese with tomato sauce and hot dogs
Anything with tofu in it is weird

magprob
Jun 27, 2006, 06:47 PM
Now see? That's what I'm talking about! Tofu is gooood! Miso soup is out of this world. Up there in Wyoming, where beef is not just for breakfast anymore, it might be against the law to soak firm tofu in bar-b-que sauce and grill it. I don't know... it's just a hunch, but let me know for sure if you have ever tried it Demon.

educatedhorse_2005

Nope Haven't tried it.
But I do like tofu a little.
But I can't eat it everyday.
