My son is 6 years old. His father and I aren/t on good terms right now because he never stepped up to the plate. After I went to court for chold support, when my son was 5 (I DID try to avoid that route), "Dad" took me to court for visitation... he had always had an open door which he didn't utilize. He told me "if I have to pay child support, I'm going for visitation. Well... from the time he filed papers and we went to court.. he never saw or called his son until the court order went into effect. The question I have is... if my son doesn't want to go for whatever reason... invited to go somewhere with friends or family or just doesn't want to... does he have to? Does he have the right to choose? Please answer soon as this has come up an is an issue... Dad has threatened me with contepmt if my so doesn't want to go.

First you needed court orders in place from day one,

You may ask the court to allow for counseling to help the child adjust to the father.

But of course, mothers try this all the time, schedule things on the dads visit times, if the couple can work together, trade days and so on it can work,
But if you do not supply the child to the father he can take you back to court on contempt

You have to learn to arrange your times and your trips when it is not the fathers time
