View Full Version : Kitchen faucet--water doesn't come out right away?

I replaced the sink sprayer today because the water just dribbled out of it before. After replacing the hose and sprayer, it still doesn't work. So I checked and cleaned the diverter. It still doesn't work (when I hold the button on the sprayer, water comes out in full force for one second, then it dribbles). And now, when I turn on the faucet water, it doesn't come out right away, it takes what seems like a long time (at least 2 or 3 seconds of nothing, then full pressure).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

There is a diverter inside the faucet column. It appears you still have dirt inside. See if you can clean the diverter one more time. Also, clean your aerators, on faucet and on the sprayer.

What's the brand name of your faucet? One handle or two knobs? How old? When you had the valve apart did you turn the water back on for a minute to flush out any crud that might be left in the valve body? Let me know. Tom

THANK YOU for your responses! It is a Delta, one handle, not sure how old (we've lived here 3 years and the kitchen was redone in the late 80's I believe). I took all pieces out and soaked them in vinegar for hours, then rinsed and put everything back together (that was before I posted my question). After some more internet research, I took the diverter out completely and tried again... everything works great. Of course water still does come out of the faucet when the sprayer is on. That doesn't bother me, but I would like to get another diverter as the water then comes out of the sprayer a little bit each time that I turn on the water (just drips) and I don't want that wet all the time (anything to cut down on cleaning!). I haven't researched that much, do I need to order a diverter or would Lowe's or Home Depot, etc. have parts like this?

Thanks again, what an awesome site!

Ok, that diverter either doesn't "sit" properly in its saddle or there is still some dirt. Anyways:

I don't know whether BigBoxStores carry Delta diverters. But I would suggest that you call Delta Help Line directly. I found them very helpful. They will tell you exactly what to buy and who carries it in your zip code. Let us know how you did !
