Hi,
I am interested in starting a new business copying VHS and 8mm videos to DVD format. My big question, "Is this Legal" or "Is it a copyright violation"? I plan on destroying the original VHS tape once the format change is complete. I would keep written documentation of all destroyed original copies.
Please let me know what you think. Being a music teacher I am fully aware of the penalties for copyright violation. I don't want to do anything that would get me into legal hot water . I am anxious to hear what you think.
Sincerely,
:)Music Educator :)

I am an instuctor at a community college. Here's a question, Are you videos closed captioned? At my job, I am responsible for getting copyright permissions for video to be accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing. We have to ensure all videos are captioned. We also have to ask for copyright permission to show it in class. Make sure the videos you use do not have restrictions about who you can show it too. We have asked to for permission twice to transfer VHS to DVD because of new equipment at our college, and were approved. It really depends on what company you are going thought. Many of the companies are very accomidating, so call and ask.
