View Full Version : 2006 Dodge Durango issues

I have a 2006 Dodge Durango that I love other than the fact that the first fall season after we bought it, as the weather started getting colder and humidity dropped, I have found that when we turn the vehicle off and go to slide out of the car (I have clothe seats) I get a huge electrical shock on my hand as I grab the door to close it and it sets off the horn, wipers, and all the lights on the dash come on and continues to go off and on until we open up the hood and unhook the battery cable which then seems to reset everything until the next episode. I called the dealer and took it in for diagnostic testing the first time it happened and was told they could find nothing. Their suggestion was to bring it in while it was happening the next time so they could diagnos during the event, but unfortunately, the engine won't start while this is going on (nor do I think it would be a good idea to drive while the horn is blairing non-stop!) I am frustrated and shook up after each episode and hate that I am having to deal with this on a vehicle that is still under warranty! I am curious if anyone has had this same issue and what suggestions anyone may have.

Thanks!

You can avoid the shock by holding onto the metal portion of the key and touching the key to the door handle to discharge the static, but it could still cause the other problems.
Check under recall history for statement about static.

The dealer should have information on recalls.
