View Full Version : Leak from pipe under outdoor water shut off

Beneath the water shut off for the outside faucet is approx 4 inches of pipe with an indoor faucet attached. The faucet blew off and sent water spewing all over my basement. I turned it off tightly, but water is still dripping from the pipe filling a 5 gal bucket in approx 8 hours. Can the pipe be capped or an new faucet attachment be put on? Or is it a more serious problem? I don't know if the connection failed due to age and corrosion, or if the drip caused pressure and forced it off. Bought the house a few years back, so I don't know the history, and I am not very handy.

The faucet blew off Describe what blew off. A picture would be great. Please give us more details. Regards, Tom

Here are pics of the faucet piece that came off, and a pic of the shut off and leaky pipe.

It looks like the blue handle shut off valve is leaking, remove the stem and replace the washer, see the image below.
