For some strange reason my computer is... whenever I open a page.. if I let is sit for a minute... I can not click anywhere on the page. I can't even click on my taskbar(start, or anything) it will not respond. Even if the option is highlighted on the mouse over . It will not respond.The only way to get it to respond is to click ctrl +alt+ del open the task manager and choose"switch to" then I cam given control back. I have done spyware scans ,sweeps, restores, I am looking to "deframent" now.. have no Idea if that will help hope it doesn't hurt. I am trying really hard not to do a re-install... but that is how it is looking. As time goes by it gets worse. Computer is sinking fast.

Have you made sure all your drivers and patches are up to date ?
Worth try are some other anti spyware/virus apps and some system maintenance.
(I'm going to assume that you are using XP even tho' you didn't mention.
Most of these steps will work with any Operating System)

Here's some simple steps for you to take.
1/ Remove temp files and other rubbish form your system, either with inbuilt Disc Clean up or CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com).
(Disc clean up; open my computer > right click your C: drive > properties > Disc clean up button on general tab. Let it run and select everything)
2/ Defrag; open my computer > right click your C: drive > properties > Tools tab > Defragament now button.
3/ Error checking; open my computer > right click your C: drive > properties > Tools tab > Top button > check now. Check BOTH boxes, OK the error message and reboot.
4/ Page file; Right click 'my computer' > properties > advanced tab > Performance settings button > advanced tab > Virtual memory (near the bottom). To make things easier for you select System managed size > click set > then OK's all the way out again. (I suggest 'system managed' as there is no consensus on min and max sizes to set)
5/ To make sure everything is running fine also run both anti virus and anti spyware apps (make sure that they are updated first ;)) (AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1) is good and free AV)
(A couple of good removal tools are Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/))

ALso an on line virus and spyware scanner is Trend Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)

Does any of this apply to 2000 ME? Mine has a lot of the same issues.

Stormy, I am by far no computer expert, but I have ME also, big mistake!! Too many programs have "glitches" with ME.

I run my defrag twice a week, clean out history and cookies, then go to

Search and type in *.tmp, *.wbk, *.chk

Then I run the search, highlight everything found and delete it.

Pssssst J_9 CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) does an excellent job of cleaning all the rubbish out and , once installed, it's a one click affair.

Granted Windoze ME is the biggest pile of steaming pooh that Micro$oft have ever produced ;)

It certainly sounds as if a process is starting up that is linked to the Internet Explorer program. Usually that means a nasty piece of spyware. It would be interesting to see a list of running processes after you start IE. Maybe then we could pick out the culprit.

Curlyben, I downloaded ccleaner and I absolutely LOVE it!! I had no idea my computer had so much junk! I regularly cleaned my cookies and history, defragged and all that good stuff. Yet it found things I had no idea were there,, my computer acts like it has had an enema LOL
