My husbands' father recently passed away. My husband and his siblings have had no contact with their father since he divorced their mother. His father not only divorced their mother but divorced them as well. My husbands sister says that there is some law that entitles them to a portion of his estate even if he did not write them into the will. Is this true? I thought a will was pretty much set in stone.

Hello Maggie:
Nope. A will is VERY challengeable. The better your hubby's lawyer, the more challengable the will becomes.

If there was a will and it was prepared by a competent attorney, they it will cost you to try and overturn it. But in some states there are laws that prevent totally disinheriting a spouse or offspring.
You can Google Inheritance Laws for your area to get more info. Do you have any idea of the extent of the estate?
