View Full Version : Should I call my doctor or my optometrist?

Tonight I had the oddest thing happen to me. While putting away groceries, my vision on the lower left side appeared to have a jagged, flashing line through it. I could see fine, but the line was a little disconcerting. It was like looking into a mirror that has a crack going through it - the vision on the left of the line was fine, but a little off kilter.

About 20 minutes later the flashing line disappeared but when I sat down to watch TV the weatherman had 3 eyes! His head also appeared to have grown a huge lobe. My son pulled up the channel guide and instead of it saying "loading" I only saw "lading."

Everything seems fine now. No flash, no 3 eyed man - but that really freaked me out and wonder if I need to see a doctor.

Em, what's your blood pressure like?

You may have had a small stroke...

Are you a diabetic? Lack of blood flow to the optic nerve can affect sight.

Go see a doctor.

I've always had low blood pressure.

Is there anyone in your family that has a history of detached retinas?

Most times a detached retina is like a curtain closing slowly over the eye involved, but not always. Sometimes the progression is slower and presents much like yours did.

If I were you I would get an opinion from both a MD and an Opthomologist, not an optometrist.

Thanks, J - I'll ring him up in the morning. (Just what I needed)

All great suggestions. Go to your doctor and see if they want to refer you.

I went to my GP who sent me to the Ophthalmologist who said nothing was torn - yeah!

I have to go back in a month and have it rechecked.

Thanks for your suggestions!
