Hi,

I was arrested for stealing clothes in a major department store and was arrested by the police department in NYC.(First and only arrest). I was fingerprinted and photos were also taken of me. I was charged with a misdemeanor and was told that after a year the charges would be dropped. My question is " Will this appear on my criminal history record when I apply for a teaching position after the year is completed?" Should I mention this arrest when being interviewed? If so, what are my chances of getting a teaching position.

A misdemenaor will show up on a criminal unless it was dropped as you said it was suppose to be. Did you go back and check to see if it was ( don't guess you did or you would not be asking)
You can go to the police station and have a criminal background check done.
If it was taken off it will be taken off the official police record.
Now there are many private companies that once something goes into their records it is not taken out.

What class of misdemeanor was it? And it depends what the court says but overall that I have heard it doesn't show up if you do what your told if it was a class be that's what I was told
