We moved into a rental house in Spartanburg, SC, in August, with a signed lease. The rent is paid up and on time. Today a Sheriff's Deputy showed up at the door with some papers asking for the owner of the house. She has moved to NC. Who can I contact and how can I find out if the house is going into foreclosure? I need to know ASAP if I am going to have to find another place to rent. I can't wait until I have a notice and have to move within a few days, as I'm disabled, with a teen-age son. Please send me any advice you can. Thanks.

Sadly there is no real way to find out, you can go down to the court house and see if there is a court case filed but that is all I can think of. You can call and ask the owner if they will tell you the truth.
But you have a lease, and until the bank actually takes it, the lease is binding, and you can not just break it without oweing all the penalties listed in it.
** I know not fair** if and when it is foreclosed and you are given notice, you have the right to go to court to ask for additional time ( they may not give it, but just going to court will give you more time)
You also can go to the recorder of deed and find out who the lender is, and contact them, they may or may not tell you anything. You also can try to buy the property. The lender really does not want it.
