So I have lots of viruses and such on my computer and I here that if you crash your computer it will delete everything on your computer plus viruses. I kind of want to crash it on perpahs after saving all the stuff I want to keep on a MyBook thing. So I can use someone else's operating systems disk that is a XPS 410 but my computer is just a plan XP. I don't know much about this stuff and I don't feel like taking to big of risks. Plus I feel that, that is illegal? So does anyone know for sure whether using their disk will work or not? If it helps, my computer is about three years old and their's is about 2.5 years old.

Easy if you download AVG and run it it will heal viruses keep restarting and wiping until all gone. The trick is to disable the internet after installing and updating the AVG software. And remember to keep internet disabled until all is well keep running the scans until everything is clear.
If this is not possible then go to safe mode and save onto another disk or take out disk and put into another computer to copy from your disk using the safe mode if you have another computer or a good friend.
Some viruses have hidden .exe programs on your computer and when you restart they restart. They are normally found in temp, temporary internet files, windows/system32 folders if you see something that doesn't look right delete it. The first 2 folder locations can be wiped but the system32 folder can't be careful.

In safe mode you only need 2 copy Username files like: Documents, My Video, My Music etc. All the system then can be reinstalled with restore disk. All internet stuff is safe and does not need saving all you need to do is restore computer to default then reinstall programs you want and access the internet as normal. If programs are saved on the Hard Drive they will be in a folder under your username folder if you've saved them somewhere else I would be a good idea to locate the folder and save it to another disk!
