I have a laminate floor with the aluminum oxide coating. The aluminum is coming out of the floor surface and creates a blackish grey dust. If you walk with white socks, they turn black. The carpet adjacent to the laminate has a black dirt trail from the laminate. Cleaning the floor with a damp rag will turn black. Why is this happening how do I stop it?

What type of laminate floor is it? Brand? Who installed it? When? What type of install? (glue-down or nail-down) What is the sub-floor? (wood, concrete) I have never heard of that happening before. If it truly is the coating, it should be covered under the install warranty and or manufacturer's warranty.

It is a Pergo brand sold and Menard's. Called Multilook. I installed over a plywood subfloor. Glued together at edges, not nailed down. I called the manufacturer, they said to go back to Menard's, they are a big box store here in the midwest, like Home Depot. They were no help. The color of the dust/dirt is consistent with aluminum. The manufacturer's tech people also had never heard of this before. It is the most strange thing. There has to be a flaw in the aluminum oxide used in the wear coat. What can be done to seal the floor that will not make it worse?

Bonakemi has a variety of products which will cause a new topcoat to stick. Should work out OK for you.

We have just installed a laminate wood floor, (floating floor) and discovered the same problem- black socks and feet- carpet trails- and are horrified! I have been cleaning, and cleaning, and cleaning it and was finally thinking I was losing my mind!! A couple of questions... Did the dust gradually go away, or are you still dealing with it? Did you find anything that helped your problem, or did you end up taking it back? I am so glad that I just happened to stumble onto your post because I could not find ANY information what so ever on the net!

I have been having the same problem with my laminate wood floor, (floating floor). I had the floors installed 2 years ago.

Has any discovered a solution for this problem?

I had Pergo laminate flooring installed about 6 months ago to eliminate carpet dust, but it looks like I created an even more dangerous situation. I have noticed the same thing, this very fine gray dust everywhere. I came to the conclusion on my own that it might be the aluminum oxide wearing off, I am hoping that it will stop eventually, but I have no idea how long it will take. I wish I had done a lot more research before installing it. If anyone finds a good solution please e-mail me <e-mail removed> Thanks
