My male friend ( once a boy friend, lover) is a construction worker and moved into my house with the understanding that he would get to live there if he would fix my house up. He was also to pay half of the utilities and the cell phone bill, and the cable bill (both of which he talked me into getting in my name with the understanding that he would pay them).

He has done some work on my house, but has not finished anything that he started. He has lived there for a little over a year now and has paid his part of the bills maybe three times. He also talked me out of eight thousand dallars with the promis that he would pay me back as it was money I had to have to pay the IRS. He hasn't paid me back and hardly ever works.

I have asked, ordered, and begged him to leave, but he won't. I can hardly stand to look at this man knowing that he has financially ruined me. I don't even have enough money to get my medications.

I have heard that if someone lives in your house you have to evict them. How do I go about it, and do you have to have a certain reason to evict some one from your home, or can I evict him just because I no longer want him there.

I just want to cut my losses and get rid of this guy.

You give them written notice to move, you then go down to the court house ( different courts in various areas) and get normally a eviction package they provide, but you file for a formal eviction, they serve him notice. And there is a court hearing.

There's a "sticky" at the top of this forum with a link to each state's landlord / tenant laws. Read up on those for your state.

I would highly recommend getting the eviction rolling at the same time you file a civil suit against this idiot.

Honestly (this is not a legal recommendation) you have WAY more restraint than I would in your situation!
