I am currently taking care of my two grandchildren who were removed from their home by Child Services. I have taken all the classes to be a certified foster care parent. The mother is now an alcoholic and is believed to be bipolar. She is unable to make rational decisions or take care of herself. She has been evicted from her home. I have completed all the steps to be certified as a foster parent, which means I would receive a per diam for each child. We (myself and Child Services along with an appointed therapist) have attempted to place her in a facility for evalucation and help, but because she has allowed her state Medicaid to lapse due to not turning in paperwork, no one will take her. She has sliced herself with razors, etc. She cannot perform the smallest tasks of even getting her paperwork filled out for Medicaid. Her therapist just now filed a mental inquisition to have her arrested and court ordered to receive treatment, which would have meant that a facility would have to take her regardless of her current insurance status, and then she could have applied while in care for the assistance. The police showed up at her house (she has until Monday to get out) and asked if she was O.K. to which she replied she was, and they left.
Is there any way I can take power of attorney to have her placed anywhere? It now looks as though the state is going to try and terminate her parental rights, which means I would be forced to take legal guardianship of the children and not receive any financial assistance in their upbringing (conveniently enough right when I am due to be certified). Just wondering how I can get the mother some type of help before she is homeless and found dead in the street.
