I have an adorable 14 week old Lab puppy. We also have a 4 year old small terrier mix, who is calm and pretty much a sweet lap dog. At 14 week the Lab is already bigger then our Terrier. My question is: The Lab is soooooooo playful, but my terrier is not. He'll tolerate the lab for a while, but then the playing gets to be way too much for him. The Lab is all over her wanting to play, but he also likes to playfully snap and bite, he's not aggressive at all- just VERY playful. I'm sure this is how he played with his littermates and lab are known for being pain tolerate, but my terrier is not pain tolerate and sometimes will yelp. I'm so worried he's going to accidentally hurt her. He, the lab, gets so happy and excited he see's my terrier. I hate to keep them separated, but how do I teach my big lab puppy, who's only going to get bigger, to play gently?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!

The same thing happened with my mom. She has a yellow lab and a Jack Russell. I would say the best thing to do is to assert yourself as the leader for what kind of play is sponsored. Be vigilant and eventually the lab will get what the 'rules' are.
