We just received a cast iron hedgehog as a gift. Not kidding. It weighs about 6 pounds, about as big as a grapefruit.
I do collect cast iron, I mean useful stuff like cornbread tins and frying pans but have no idea what to do with this thing. The people who gave it are the sort who will expect to see it somewhere when they visit. I thought maybe make a weathervane out of it and hope it rusts away FAST but I think it is too heavy for that. Or maybe a counterweight for a gate to keep it closed without a latch, but the only way I can use it for that is to tie a rope or chain around the hedgehog's neck and hang it, whichwould look vaguely like cruelty to animals. Anybody got any ideas? It is small and heavy but I don't want to keep stooping over to pick it up if it is a doorstop. I'd sell it for scrapmetal in a heartbeat, but don't know if they'd buy the it was STOLEN! Story.
Thanks!

Definitely limited utility. Yet, I've seen critter looking things used as:

Boot/shoe mud/snow scrapers with some type of brush attached.
Hiding place for a spare key.
Weight in water garden to hold liner etc. in place.
Point of interest in flowers planted around mailbox post.

You could also get "artistic" and place it somewhere unexpected, such as sitting on a tree limb, inside the mailbox, or stuck to the ceiling.

Grasping: If you're into rustic cookware and serving ware, nothing says ambiance like a hedgehog candle holder.

How about as a simple doorstop for a bathroom door or other inside door? Maybe you could also put a little hat or something else cute on it?

Well guys it tends to alarm people because at first glance it really looks like a hand grenade.
Also it has really spindly little legs on the bottom so using it as a doorstop is difficult because you can't just kick it around or it will roll onto its back.
Does dead hedgehog say anything ambient? Maybe "it's hot in here...."

My wife really likes the make little outfits for it idea. But that could get out of hand I think, maybe leading them to give us MORE hedgehogs!
