I have a 1 year old cavy that started standing up in his cage, biting the bars(as if he wanted out) and doing back flip type jumps (not popcorning) like he really wanted out of the cage now. He was fine before he came out of his cage for "lap Time" but after putting him back in 2 hours later, he seemed anxious and afraid (as if he saw a ghost). He has never done this before. The only events that took place while he was out were his cage was cleaned ( no cleaning products are used) and he ate part of a pretzel (no salt). When I approached his cage and opened the door, he climbed on the door and into my arms burying his head into the fold of my upper and lower arm (he usually avoids). He also would "talk" in a low rhythmic pattern as if he was afraid of something in his cage. Any suggestions? He lives by himself and is in the living room and I was watching TV when this took place. He would not eat the lettuce in his cage, but when he sat on the couch with me he would eat and purr (normal Happy). Could he be getting too much attention? Is he spoiled? Is he in rut? I can not find any info on this type of behavior. I see no ear mites and he looks to be in otherwise good health. Thanks for your help in advance.
