we have newly laid wall tiles that have now cracked (very faint).

These tiles are large (3' x 1') laid horizontally on cement board, on timber framing.

Any ideads on why we are getting the cracking?

The wooden walls will expand and contract according to the moisture content.

All wood expands and contracts.

I live in an old converted barn with some drywall walls/ceilings,the nails in some areas have popped out due to some movement like you have described.

Expect this to happen and use flexible caulk(silicone... )to fill the gaps as needed in the future.

Hope this helped,

Understant this but the timber was kiln dried, and up for some months prior to lining. In other walls constructed in the same way but lined with drywall, and tiles this has not happened.

Wall tiles laid horizontally? Are these on the floor or wall? Give us a clarificaion (and a picture if possible) so we can determine what the problem is.
