Hi, I am about to start school for medical assistants.Does anyone know how much they get paid in New Jersey? Is it worth my time on starting my career as a MA? I want to higher my education by going up to be a Register Nurse. Is being a RN any better? How much does an RN earn in New Jersey? I been hearing I am wasting my time by starting in this career but, medical is something I always wanted to do.I am so confused and need to decide soon I'll be starting school very soon and don't want to waste my time.
THANKS...

I can't give you the pay in New Jersey, but I CAN tell you about Tennessee. If you are going for RN, then go for it. The pay is much higher for an RN than it is a MA. As a MA in a hospital you basically will be doing all the dirty work... bathing patients, changing them, etc. As an RN you are in the patient's direct care. Giving meds, dealing with the families as well as with the doctors in making important decisions regarding the patient's health and welfare.
As I stated, the RN pay is significantly higher than a MA or CNA and the benefits are much better as well.
