About every year and half our pump that removes waste from our basement apartment clogs and he is the one who has to clean it. I say it's the grease and he claims that it is the toilet paper that hastens the process, which ultimately clogs the pump. This is a huge problem because he basically accuses me as the cause since I refuse to throw my TP in the waste basket.

I really want to settle this matter. Who is right? And if he is I will change my habits, but if I am, down goes the toilet paper.

Thanks a lot,

D

Toilet paper is fine(as long as your pump is for sewage, and not just a sump pump) However, no paper towels or tampons should be flushed. The only thing that should be flushed is human waste, and toilet paper.

Never dump grease down any drain. This will cause problems.

So I guess you win. Because toilet paper won't cause your problem, unless it gets stuck on a build up of grease.lol

Ps, why is there grease in your drains?

I think it is a sump pump. Since we live below street level, we need to have anything that goes down the drain, including kitchen sink water, to be pumped up to the main line. I try to be very careful and wipe all pot, pans, plates, etc. I even use a little bleach in my dish soap.

My husband hates to clean the thing, and I don't blame him, but I can't do the waste basket thing unless I gave to for his comfort. Now that you know it's a sump pump; does this change your response. My husband says that the fibers contribute to the "spakle".

Denise...

If you have an 1.5" discharge sump pump in the tank then you have the wrong pump in place.

You should have a 2" discharge sewage ejector if you are pumping waste up from a settling tank.

If this is in fact a sewage ejector then toilet paper is not an issue whatsoever!! These pumps are designed for the job they do and can actually handle MULTIPLE TOILETS... ;)

Never mind the fact that toilet paper gets broken down into mush after flowing through the toilet... so TP is not an issue and would be a health hazard to your family if you just threw it in a trash barrel... YUCK!

Check the size of the pipes coming out of the pit... there should be 2 pipes and both should be 2"...
