I am putting a new water supply line in the older home we just purchased. There was a 3/4" galvanized pipe running from the city main to the water meter in the basement. I am replacing the galvanized pipe with 1" copper tubing. The galvanized pipe had rusted and holes in it where it went through the basement wall. What should I put around the copper pipe to protect it? What is code?

If you're going to increase to one inch then bore a 1 1/2" hole through the cement wall and sleeve the hole with a piece of 1 1/4" PVC. That's what we do. Good luck, Tom

Generally penetrations should be sleaved. Cut a piece of PVC pipe where the 1" pipe will pass through.

Use cement and caulk for the PVC. Try to rent a core drill.

Diameters you can figure out. Use schedule 40 tables for the PVC and 1" tubing tables for the "copper pipe" . It's really tubing.
