I want to know if in California a person w/ a felony can have a nursing career. I have not been convicted of a violent crime, but I do have a felony on my record. I plan to attend the nursing program in my area. I just want to know if I will be employable after graduation.

A California company called California Expungement Services says no - you need a pardon from the Governor to get a RN license.

I goes on to say if you have a felony conviction after being licensed you must surrender your license.

Contact the, Board of Nursing, in your county they can better advice you. In Alabama you can complete the nursing program and then have a hearing with the board. They then will decide. Of course, it depends on the crime, drugs I think is a no, no. Plus, you'll need to show all positive things you have done since being in prison. It is a lot to risk. But you must decide is it really worth it being they can decide no. But, please try! Exspecially with how hard it is to find a job without being a felon. I will say this, "Please love taking care of others from the heart." GOOD LUCK AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU!
