Every since I could remember, I have always been grossed out or freaked out by drains. Drains on a tub, sink, jacuzzi, pool. It does not matter, if I touch it I get chills and well in laymen terms just spaz. I can't even take a bath because I am afraid my feet will touch the drain, so I am strictly a shower type of girl. The only way I am okay is if I wear swimming shoes or something over my feet I will be fine.

I can't recall of any memory involving something tragic with drains but I just can't pull myself together enough to get over it no matter what I do.

I this a phobia and if so what kind?

Something might of happened when you were younger, like a loved small toy falling down there, or a fear of something or someone coming up it and taking you away? It could be something like that

Not really that strange, by the way of phobias go. Some people it is butterflys, others touching door handles and so on.

If you don't mind living with it, don't see any real issue, but you can look into counseling if you want to get over it

I have a similar problem, except it's with drains and sewers outside. If I touch one I have a panic attack. Try seeing a therapist - that may help a lot. I personally don't know what I'm so scared of them either. Therapy certainly helped me, look into a good therapist, and hopefully it can help you too. Good luck!

Drains are very filthy places; I don't like them either, but I haven't focused too much on them. :)

I have watched maintenance men over the years clean them out with their bare hands and discard the slime and hair... they never got sick; always on the job.

I think you can desensitize yourself if you clean the tub and sinks once a week using latex gloves to protect your hands and scouring the outside.

Then, step into the tub and touch the drain with your toes... desensitize.

Best wishes,
