This is for all of you dog lovers out there! This is a good one to copy and save. I've printed mine out and have it on my fridge. Next time your dog does something that may get you frustrated, or even something that just makes you smile, just read the 10 commandments, and remember how much they love you! Give them an extra hug today! :)

Hugs from Starby, and licks and schmoozes from Niki! :D

(sorry, I couldn't copy the pic, but Brutus is a beautiful dog!)

The K9 above is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord. He's huge - part Boxer and part British Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs. His handler took the picture. Brutus is running toward me because he knows I have some Milk Bone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to duck around a tree just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop, but he did. Brutus won the Congressional Medal of Honor last year from his tour in Iraq . His handler and four other soldiers were taken hostage by insurgents. Brutus and his handler communicate by sign language and he gave Brutus the signal that meant 'go away but come back and find me'. The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus. He came back later and quietly tore the throat out of one guard at one door and another guard at another door. He then jumped against one of the doors repeatedly (the guys were being held in an old warehouse) until it opened. He went in and untied his handler and they all escaped. He's the first K9 to receive this honor. If he knows you're OK, he's a big old lug and wants to sit in your lap. Enjoys the company of cats.

Thought you'd find this interesting. Talk about animal intelligence and bonding with humans!

Remember that they can't do a lot of things for themselves and that they depend on you to make their life a quality life!

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS...

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if

Something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch.

Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

~Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them.

Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters

~Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

awww... this made me cry. I love dogs.

So glad you liked it. I cried too! I love my little Niki girl. She saved my life by jumping on me and licking my face while I was asleep, to alert me to my carbon monoxide detector going off. I give her all the hugs (and extra treats) I can everyday to thank her for being my angel! :)

Dogs are the best pets ever and I thank God every day for my little darlla.. Although I don't live with her anymore (family dog and I moved out) I am so grateful for everything she did for me.. she was there for me always.. she got me through my toughest years

I miss her so much.. need to make a visit to the parents house soon! To see her ;)

Dogs are the best. When I lost my mom- at age 11- I had a black lab and any time she knew I was upset she would run up to me and start licking my face. Even if my head was buried- she'd wedge her head up under my armpit. I loved that dog!

The 10 commandments are beautiful - really tugging at my heart strings, as we recently put my mom's 12-year old big, doofy, lovable Golden down due to cancer. Makes me think about him. :)

But I'm sad to say the story about Brutus is a fake...

Darn! I usually check snopes for everything, but it didn't even cross my mind in this case. Oh well, it was a nice story anyway, and I know many dogs have done so many brave things for their people. Just think of all of the dogs that work with law enforcement that catch criminals, dogs that work with firemen and go into burning buildings, tracker dogs that find missing people, service dogs that help out the disabled, elderly etc. drug and explosive sniffing dogs in our airports etc. also the dogs that are trained, or just by nature can sniff out cancer or other illnesses in people. And, of course they are just our special family members, who can instinctivly know when you are happy or sad, and offer a kiss! They can all be our hero's, and don't care about things like medals, to prove that they love us! :)

Sorry about your Mom's dog Jillian. :(

I'm so glad you aren't mad at me for bursting the bubble, star! I agree, there are a lot of wonderful dogs out there who have done amazing things for their owners, and the story you posted is a nice one. Too bad they didn't make it about a real dog, like Buffy here!

And thanks for your condolences about my mom's dog... :)

Oh, and because I read this story, I saved my fortune cookie from lunch today and gave it to my doggie when I got home. I think today might be one of the best days of her life - her dad took her to the park, then I came home and she got a cookie! :D

It's so sad that Buffy had to die because all he wanted to do was protect his protector! Now that's a hero story. Too bad it had to have a sad ending!

Parks and Cooookies!! What dog doesn't love that! ;)
