I am installing a new vanity and sink in our master bathroom, and I'm having some issues connecting the new sink to the plumbing. Before I head to Home Depot with 3 small children (again.. . ) I'd like to know exactly what I need.

(1) I have 2 1/2"-inch supply lines. They connect to the sink fine, but the bolt that connects to the supply pipes is too big. Do these come in different sizes (i.e. 1/2" on one end, 1/4" inch on the other) or can I get some sort of middle piece to connect the larger bolt to the smaller threads?

(2) The p-trap and the tailpiece do not line up and the tailpiece is too short to reach the p-trap. Can I buy a PVC connection to make up the difference?

(3) Several places have mentioned that the sink needs to be level to the vanity, but no one mentions how to do this. Do I use shims like I did to level the vanity to the floor?

Questions 1 and 2 can be handled best by taking all your parts to a hardware store. Show the folks there what you have and they can cobble together all the parts you need. Question 3, yes you shim the vanity level at the floor and cover the gap with a kick plate or trim.
