I have a 11 yr old Afghan hound that no matter what I do will not gain weight. He eats like a horse and the Vet sais he is as healthy as one too. But no matter what I feed him you still see his bones. My other two affy's eat less than him and they have great weight. All of them run in the yard and play I just don't know what to do anymore. I even feed him some extra scraps from the table to try and give him extra. Even the Vet is stumped because he is in such good health if anyone has any safe suggestions to help I would appreciate it . Please email if you have suggestions.

Afghans, Borzoi, Greyhounds all show bone. They are supposed to 'run' skinny. They have a different metabolism from other dogs. Wonderful animals, and I am familiar with the Afghan. Don't think you should worry about this, could stress the dog out too. If the vet says you have a healthy pet, then don't ruin a good thing. Just enjoy them while you have them please, the way they are.

Thank you for your answer. I do know afghans are bony I own 4 and 3 of them are champions. But this guy is bonier than normal and I was concerned and there's no worry of loving them these affys have the best possible world I live for my animals. I just pay the bills for them to have a good home LOL. I think they have me trained very well!!

Mamhound, my old Borzoi, many years gone was a joy, big, but a joy nonetheless. He ran thin his whole life. I would have two of three of them again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for setting my mind at ease I thought I was doing something wrong after all this time. And I live for my affy's and I want to keep them with me as long as I can. Thanks again... ;)
