I am currently an employee of a company based out of MN. I am working in IL on a project and will be here another 8 months or so. Recently some questions have come up that my address is not legit back home for me to receive my per diem. I still live with my parents back home and use their address as my taxable home. Is it true that I will not be able to continue to receive per diem if I do not own or rent my own home back in MN or are they just trying to save money by taking away my per diem. Thank you

I have never heard of there being a restriction that you own or rent a home in order to receive your per diem when travelling for work.
Do you have copies of all company policies, handbooks, etc? If not, call HR and get copies of everything. It should fully explain the policies for travel expenses.
If worst comes to worst, create a lease with your parents.

HOW LONG have you been in Illinois? Once you hit the one-year mark, the IRS no longer considers your job assignment to be temporary and your per diem payments then become taxable compensation.
