Please help... We have guests that are going to be using the shower that has not been used for several months. Now that we want to use it the hot water is not coming out. I heard it is due to hard water in our area. I have taken off the fosset handle that directs the hot and cold water. There was a white plastic cartridge that I took off. A lot of debris came out. Now what do I do? Is there something else to clean out to make the hot water work? I am looking at a steam like metal piece that comes out of the pipe that turns left and right for the water... Thanks

Hello IvanV,
What is the brand and the model number for your faucet, and are you planning to replace the cartridge or just clean it and install it back,
At any case before you install the cartridge turn on the water for a few seconds to flush and remove all the remaining debris, use some lubricant on the seals and install the cartridge, I would suggest to use a new cartridge, good luck.

At least, open h/c water valves once a week for few seconds to prevent debris and / or calcium build up. Do the same with all plumbing fixtures in your house.
