Today's Gospel (Lk 10:1-12): The Lord appointed seventy-two other disciples and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place, where he himself was to go. And He said to them, «The harvest is rich, but the workers are few. So you must ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers to his harvest. Courage! I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Set off without purse or bag or sandals; and do not stop at the homes of those you know.
»Whatever house you enter, first bless them saying: 'Peace to this house'. If a friend of peace lives there, the peace shall rest upon that person. But if not, the blessing will return to you. Stay in that house eating and drinking at their table, for the worker deserves to be paid. Do not move from house to house.
»When they welcome you in any town, eat what they offer you. Heal the sick who are there and say to them: 'The kingdom of God has drawn near to you'. But in any town where you are not welcome, go to the marketplace and proclaim: 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off and leave with you. But know and be sure that the kingdom of God had come to you'. I tell you that on the Judgment Day it will be better for Sodom than for this town».
Could you, would you go without purse, bag, or shoes into strange towns spreading the good news and helping heal the folks there from town to town?
:)Peace and kindness.:)

Fred thanks be to God for all the posts, we are getting quite a Bible based education here reading all your homilies.
At my last job I tried to spead the Good News as much as I was able with my bosses and coworkers.
Once a severe thunderstorm, possibly a tornado was approaching our building. People actually wanted to stand next to me and hide behind me like children as it approached, possibly thinking if God spared anyone it might be me (a hiding place from the windstorm)
Also I overheard my supervisor telling people that after I came there, people started talking to one another instead of staying in their own little cliques at work(love each other as God has loved you)
People also started singing that country song Beer for my Horses with the words Beer for my Sheep
Wherever we find ourselves in life we should try to witness, spread the word, show ourselves to be workmen with nothing to be ashamed of, handling the word of the truth rightly

We live in different times, with different customs and culture than in the MiddleEast two thousand years ago.
What caught my eye was the number 72... perhaps it had magic properties in Judaism, and then Christianity, as does it in Islam and the 72 virgins as a reward when a man dies.
Incidentally, this quote shows that the Kingdom of God was spread by men, that the Kingdom was made up of people who were changed by Jesus' teachings and became more aware spiritually.

Me - honestly, I don't think so. I would like the courage to :(
I work in a hospital. Science and technology can only go so far. I find that sharing your faith with the sick and suffering helps them. They reaffirm it or if they don't believe or take it seriously they stay silent. They have lost nothing from hearing about God's forgiveness and grace. :)

The rule of 72 Choux is when you divide 72 by the interest rate to get the number of years it takes to double your money at that interest rate. For example 72/8 = 9 meaning if you invest $100 at 8% interest for 9 years you walk away with $200. Which made 72 a very important number in those times so you put that number into the stories you make up so people will remember it.

Yeah, I used that math thing when I was a stock broker. :)
The thing is that Islam uses the number 72, and they don't allow charging interest.
Anyone else? :D

I agree with inthebox. Honestly, I think that it would be very difficult. But fortunately, we have the net! So, in a way, we're like the disciples spreading the Word of God!!
Anyway, we are trying our best.

Some with open minds listen and are saved, others suffer the lose of hope and salvation.

I suggest you each take a god free day. Just to try it out. Remember this isn't an anger at god day this is a dismissal of a superstition god free day. A day where instead of praying for something to happen you go out and accomplish it yourself. A day where you spend time with your family not because some god says you have to but because you want to. A day when you do the right thing not because you burn in hell if you don't but because it's the right thing to do and it makes you feel better. You should all try it see how much better your life goes even on just that one day.

If you can't start with a god free day. Start with small superstitions and work your way up. For example when a black cat crosses your path don't worry about be nice to the kitty instead. If you spill some salt don't worry about throwing it over your shoulder just clean it up. Step on sidewalk cracks without fear of breaking your mothers back. Try these simple ones and work your way up to the big one if you need to.

Here is the relevant part to the OP's quote
"But in any town where you are not welcome, go to the marketplace and proclaim: ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off and leave with you. Michaelb,
I am not superstitious no matter what you may think.
God is NOT a superstition.
There is no way for me or anyone to have a God free day.
He is here now always whether you believe it or not.
God is much more than belief. God IS!!

Zeus is NOT a superstition.
There is no way for me or anyone to have a Zeus free day.
He is here now always whether you believe it or not.
Zeus is much more than belief. Zeus IS!!
Yet despite these word and despite the millions who believed Zeus was as real as your god. Billions now don't even considor him in their daily lives. If you can live like Zeus doesn't exist you can live like god doesn't exist.
*Pro tip: When you live your life like there is no god. You live it exactly the same except you spend less time praying and more time doing. Try it next time you want something instead of praying for it. Spend ten minutes thinking about how you can achieve it on your own.

What is the question exactly?
Ok, just for you memory handicapped poster on this board (handicapped when it suits you) here is my post once more :
I was really beginning to wonder where Credendovis was, since this post is all about him. Of course there's the awful possibility we have to consider, that he might have something better to do than listen to us.....
What a silly person you must be to post so much foolishness...
To start : may be you should start listening to me and others first...
And yes, I had something better to do than listen to you and your theistic peers...
But how terrible that you had to wait 1 or 2 days for my reaction after the one in post #4.
How did you survive all that long waiting?
Of course I was not aware that prior to a visit to my children and grandchildren in England I had to notify you personally. My absence on-line here seems to have caused so much of a traumatic experience to you that you have my full sympathy, and I quickly add a "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa" to make it up to you...
Please take careful note of the following expected days off-line here :
During the last week of November 2008 I will be on a short business trip to the Far East = off-line.
Early December 2008 I will be visiting again my children and grandchildren in England = off-line.
Over Christmas 2008 I will be visiting my daughter in Africa = off-line.
February-March 2009 I will be on a ski holiday in Switzerland = off-line.
Spring 2009 I will most probably sailing again in my yacht on the Atlantic Ocean and - possibly - in the Mediterranean Sea. But on-board I - fortunately for you - have a satellite link, so that I can remain on-line.
For summer 2009 no firm plans are presently available - my sincere apologies for that inconveniance are hereby offered. Most probably it will be a visit to Australia or Thailand.
I just give you all that information already so that you can prepare yourself for all these long absences. I hate to think that you - in your confusion caused by these absences - will step off a high building, jump in front of a train, or electrocute yourself at the Christmas tree, just because all these unannounced and long absences drive you into complete insanity. Subject of course that you have not arrived at that result already, which - from your post here - is another rather viable possibility...
That post I referred to...
:D  :D  :D

Well your post seems to be a statement that doesn't need to be replied to. So what reply were you expecting?
I'm not angry exactly, guys, just disappointed. When I see that Arcura's question has over 50 answers, I sort of expected to see more than a pile of junk here when I made the effort to read them. Since in 50 replies that has not happened I guess it's time to unsubscribe to this Q as well.
And yes, if the reply would be expected to be, "I don't know, I'll have to go ask my mother" that is not a college level question.
What I was trying to get across was, we are talking about the finer points of the Christian faith, and for some reason you seem to think this needs a reply from you about Greek mythology?
Get a clue, fellas. Posting that does not make you look smart, it makes you look like someone who can't read and comprehend basic English. I'm not going to sufddenly say to myself, "wow he's right, I need to completely renounce Christianity and follow pagan beliefs!"
I'm much more likely to start trying to remember which organic brain disorder or particular drug interaction I've studied in physiology class is likely to cause someone to display this type of lack of insight and/or confusion.

wildandblue,
It seems to me that some did answer the question from their point of view.
Some alluded that this day and age made things different; that using the internet or other means to get in touch with the world would work.
Persoanlly if Jesus asked me to go out and do as His disciples and apostles did way back them and IF I had the physical ability to do so (which I do not) I would go and do the best I could for Him and those I contacted.
Peace and kindness,
