I just moved out of my apartment and was told that there will be a carpet cleaning charge that is state law in California. I have looked all around the internet and haven't found this. Is this true? Or a tactic on my landlords part? I cleaned the carpets and was inspected by the Maintenance foreman who never stated that this charge would exist.
:confused:HELP!

If you didn't sign something you don't owe if you did don't pay what are they going to do throw you out of your apartment. I doubt it would be worth them pursuing it.

There is no state law requiring a carpet cleaning charge. There are only 2 ways that your landlord can charge you for carpet cleaning: (1) if there is a provision for it in the lease that you signed; or (2) if, when you moved out, the carpet was dirty beyond normal wear and tear (or beyond what it was like when you moved in).

Read your lease carefully to see if the landlord stuck a carpet cleaning charge in there somewhere. If not then the landlord will have to prove that the carpet was dirty beyond normal wear and tear.
