My dad has a Craftsman LT1100 riding mower. It cranks fine, but as soon as you let off the clutch/brake, it goes dead. Does the same if you try to engage the blade. It is not going dead as though something is in a bind, but rather it simply acts as though the switch has been turned off. Another strange thing... the key will not fully enter the switch. Ideas?? Sounds to me like the switch is bad.

I am interested in hearing the diagnosis for this one. I have the same problem with one I have. It starts and runs fine until you either let off the brake/clutch or engage the blades and it will shut down like the key is turned off. I'm glad to see it's not just mine...

The first place I would look would be the switch under the seat.

I don't know about jlisenbe, but I've already bypassed that switch with no luck.
